Making a change through public relations and communications
Tourists who were in Soweto and were part of the project |
I, working on the Soweto Farmers Project that i had done in PPR 2002 (Module A) was a very unique and interesting project to work on hence it was a very unexpected and a semester assignment that has put me in the real working world as a future public relations practitioner. Personally it made me feel like i was already doing my internship, it made me feel good to communicate and got to see what i would be doing in the future in my career of being a public relations practitioner. Working with the farmers made me realize that working with people who are humble and trying to make a change is an eye opening experience because it motivated me to feel like i could also do the same in the future of my career. It felt good for me personally because it was an unusual task that i and my team tackled then normal semester assignments. We got to communicate with farmer by the name of Ms. Ntombi Khumalo, she is based in Soweto and has her own little farm in the surrounding area of her house.

The Soweto Project taught me:
- Respect
- Patience
- Understanding
- Self belief
- Hardwork
- Dedication
I seriously loved working on the project and i would surely do it again and revisit Ms. Ntombi Khumao to check on her and the progress of her farm. I felt good that i could make a change and help a farmer who is trying to make a change in her community by owning giving the benefits to her community and not expecting any sort of money in return.
