Youth Unemployment Campaign

Making a change in the community

In studio at EKFM
Working in youth unemployment campaign, was my favorite assignment for the module Professional Practice because it pushed me to the limit and i got to things that i never thought i could be doing and made me feel good that i could put my strengths to the use and i was very useful when it came to the youth unemployment campaign. I got to think creatively and be creative and be creative with our campaign. We came up with a creative strategy as group to communicate this global crisis that is affecting most of the youth. My writing skills really improved whilst working on the campaign because one of my responsibilities was to send out formal emails to various organisations and programs that could help us with the campaign. I personally love writing and writing skills improved digitally. Communicating with the media by forms of traditional and digital media was fun and totally felt like this what i meant to do. I went on behalf on my group on the radio station EKFM 103.6 to promote and talk about the campaign  that my group is doing as a whole. It was great being on radio and i felt comfortable like i have been doing that for years and i never struggled and i always knew that one day i would have an opportunity to be on radio and do some good especially in the career path that i have chosen. Maintaining the relationship of our stakeholder which EKFM is crucial because they loved how i spoke and the youth unemployment campaign intrigued the producers and the host . Hopefully in the future i will be working for EKFM and start my radio career where it all began. Our campaign was great, even though it was a bit challenging at first but we managed to pull through well and very successfully. Our strategy as a group was to communicate relevant and current job opportunities for the unemployed youth, open internships that the youth could apply for and open bursaries that the youth could use for their own benefit to better their future and do what is great for them and try to combat and decrease the global crisis that is affecting the world and especially the youth. We communicated the above mentioned strategies on traditional and digital media and the social network accounts that the youth could like and follow and like our posts to be updated with the above mentioned strategies of PR Evolution.

Soweto Farmers Project

Making a change through public relations and communications

Tourists who were in Soweto and were part of the project

I, working on the Soweto Farmers Project that i had done in PPR 2002 (Module A) was a very unique and interesting project to work on hence it was a very unexpected and a semester assignment  that has  put me in the real working world as a future public relations practitioner. Personally it made me feel like i was already doing my internship, it made me feel good to communicate and got to see what i would be doing in the future in my career of being a public relations practitioner. Working with the farmers made me realize that working with people who are humble and trying to make a change is an eye opening experience because it motivated me to feel like i could also do the same in the future of my career. It felt good for me personally because it was an unusual task that i and my team tackled then normal semester assignments. We got to communicate with farmer by the name of Ms. Ntombi Khumalo, she is based in Soweto and has her own little farm in the surrounding area of her house.

One of the pictures we took of Ms. Ntombi watering her crops

The Soweto Project taught me:
  • Respect
  • Patience
  • Understanding
  • Self belief
  • Hardwork
  • Dedication
I seriously loved working on the project and i would surely do it again and revisit Ms. Ntombi Khumao to check on her and the progress of her farm. I felt good that i could make a change and help a farmer who is trying to make a change in her community by owning giving the benefits to her community and not expecting any sort of money in return.

The Hustle

"Hip Hop Arising"

A new show "The Hustle"on VUZUAMP channel 114 premiered last week on Tuesday introducing top 20 contestants and the judges. It is hosted by the by beautiful Sammy Sosa.
The show has 3 well established South African rappers, who are well established and known on a national and international level. They are great lyricists and they know what it takes to look for new South African rapper that is fresh on the television show. I personally love the whole concept of the show because it gives young South African rappers with potential to showcase their talent and a platform for them to follow their dreams. I will keep watching the awesome show on VUZUAMP. I do not know have a personal favorite just as yet but i love what i have seen on the show. South Africa does have talent that we never knew besides the well known rappers. The second episode airs tonight at 7:30 PM CAT. It is a great show and so many can learn that there is hidden talent in South Africa and it is about to be discovered. I love the show and i am glued to it and another reason would be that i am glued to the screen because i have a crush on one of the judges which is "Khuli Chana".

Rupaul's Drag Race Season 7

"Show me what working with"

The new season of Ruapul's Drag Race season 7 aired last night on the young and vibrant channel VUZU Channel 116 on DSTV. It was a great first episode and i seriously loved some queens the moment they walked and introduced themselves into the work room. It was an explosive and very interesting first episode of the season. There is a variety of queens and some queens that are polished and with great experience such as Miss Fame, Violet, Max to only mention a few.
Rupaul herself.

I have always been a fan of the show and been counting down to the day that season 7 was going to be aired on VUZU 116  on Monday 20 July 2015 at 9:30 PM CAT. I really got excited and really loved most of the queens and cannot wait to seehow the rest of the season unfolds. I am sure its going to be a super fantastic one, we may be behind with some few episodes in South Africa but we are slowly catching up all thanks to the awesome channel VUZU that brings us the best shows.
I am sure that i will not get bored of the season. I seriously love Rupaul and the cast he always chooses for his show is always the best. It got a lot of positive reviews online as many people were waiting for this awesome season to go explosive on our televisions screens. I am surely going to keep tuned through till the whole season and i am sure that the first episode was the tip of the iceberg and it is only going to leave us mouth watering for me. Do you already have a favorite queen? I fell in love with Miss fame and her unique drag and it captured my attention. I am sure going to keep tuned to the season and hopefully my favorite will win the whole season. I am sure a lot of  aspiring drag queens and the LGBT community are going to be glued to the awesome season ahead.

Digital Media Has Taken Over Traditional Media

Advertising on Traditional Media Has Perished

"Traditional media is not dying- it is dead"

Different social media platforms

We live in a digital world. As the times and years progress the world we live in rapidly changes, especially the world of media. Advertising has been around for a very long time, is began in the 19th century history source. I believe that advertising in traditional media is not as effective as it used to be. The digital space is where everything occurs in this day and age. A lot of institutions use media for many reasons and one of them include advertising. The world of media is a fast and ever changing industry. I believe that if you are an institution and you do not use digital media as an advertising tool, your business will not be as recognized as it should be. There are many reasons why advertising on digital media is more effective than traditional media:
  • Insight
  • Target Audience
  • It is creative
  • Creates effective brand awareness
  • It is flexible
  • It reaches a quicker and much more faster scale than traditional media
I always respond to online advertisements if they are credible, they make my life easy hence i am a student and my life always revolves around digital media especially in my choice of study. If i could own an organisation, all of my advertising would be done on the digital space because i know how much feedback an report i would receive. It rare to find people who will use print media for advertising.the digital space

I am personally a hip hop fanatic. I believe the hip hop music scene in South Africa has evolved for the better and the artists are getting more exposure and more impressive per release. The most dominant artists in the South African hip hop music scene currently are AKA and Cassper Nyovest. Talented lyricists and performers. I personally love both of the hip hop artists but my favorite has to be Cassper Nyovest. I have my own personal reasons and some include that he is a fresh, new act from Mahikeng also known as "Maftown". He is a breath of fresh air in the "Motswako" hip hop scene, "Motswako" is a mixture of rap music with different languages such as English, Tswana etc. I strongly believe that AKA also is a great artist. Both artists have a huge following on social media platforms such as Facebook< Twitter and Instagram and social media has brought brighter exposure to their music and their everyday activities and always keeping their fans updated about their next move. The local hip hop artist Cassper Nyovest also releases music online for his fans on his latest album titled 'Tsholofelo'. I believe that Casppser Nyovest has done justice on this album, it went platinum on August 2014 platinum album source  .The album is still selling like hot cakes. Cassper Nyovest in my opinion has changed the South African music hip hop scene and a lot of the artists are following in his footsteps. He is trending, exciting, fresh, new and very hardworking and that is what u I love about the artist. His music never disappoints and you always keep wanting to listen to more of his material that is upcoming. Awaiting anxiously with anticipation. Cassper Nyovest is my favorite local hip hop artist. He takes the crown. Big Up.
